And God Created Woman

Lizzy and Lucy boarding Nicola's lovingly restored Fiat 500
complete with original Napoli number plate

With a walk in Corsica complete, it was time to regather all the Cantwell/White women folk.  Kate from Corsica, Ada from Grimaud (a village near St Tropez) and Lucy who traveled from London via Nice. Lucy was travelling with her best friend from school in Mumbai, Lizzy. All the girls were in tow!

The photo is from a helicopter whose sole purpose is taking photos of
people in their boats and selling the images!

We were meeting at our friends house in Cap D'Antibes.  It is a great place and we have described it in other posts. The centre piece of our two days in Antibe was lunch at Club 55 or, as it is often referred to, Cinqante Cinq.

The Beach Club was established when a basic cabana on Pampelonne Beach on the Med side of the old fishing village of St Tropez provided catering services for the filming of And God Created Woman in the mid-50s. Like St Tropez, it has been in fashion and out of fashion and apparently is currently enjoying a resurgence.

The view looking out to sea (OK I enhanced the colour a little) with all the super yachts moored for
their day at Pampelonne Beach

To be honest beach umbrella and no surf is not my
kind of beach but the food was great!

By all accounts it is the PG16 version of some of its neighbouring clubs but it still attracts the A list.  I am not really sure how we were admitted but I know our hosts Nicola and Ewan had to book long in advance.

Ewan in a linen shirt and his mate Ada in a Bon Jovi shirt,
channeling her inner bogan

Although the dress is beach casual, I looked a little out of place as the only man in board shorts as opposed to bathing trunks and a t shirt as opposed to a flowing linen shirt.  That said, Ewan had the look so he compensated for my skanky wax-head ensemble. The scene is that classic, effortless, old Euro money scene. All sun tans, silver hair and models (or ex models).  Great people watching.

Lucy and Lizzy hamming it up

We travelled the 60 odd km in Ewan's boat.  The girls mostly enjoying the bouncy ride along the coast before mooring amongst the super yachts, Vandutch motor yachts and ever other luxury floating thing you could imagine.

The vegetable platter to go with lunch.
Raw vegetables keep the super models slim

The restaurant area is large, there were probably around 600 people for lunch and, particularly given the scale of the operation, the food and service were excellent. I could only recommend the experience.

After a great lunch we motored back to the Cap after a great day.  Although, to be honest the highlight for me was mooring on the way back between Ile Sainte Marguerite and Ile Saint-Honorat for a swim and to buy an ice cream from the ice cream boat that moves between the boats moored in the channel (there is also a pizza boat with a wood fired pizza oven on board but we were still full from lunch.

The view of the channel while cruising back to Antibe after a truly wonderful and memorable day
