What my name means. By Ada

In Hebrew my name can mean chosen one or adornment. In Hindi my name means the essence of a beautiful woman. And now i I know that in Turkish my name means Island.
 I also found out that in English and German my name means Happy and Wealthy.

Hot Yoga, Frozen Lakes and Five Year Old Birthdays

It has been an interesting few days. Chris arrived home from Denver Colorado on Saturday, just in time to prepare for Ada's birthday. We were lucky enough to go to a yoga class together on Sunday, Bikram Hot Yoga. Yoga done in a 38 degree celcius room. How welcome was that?! Snow was falling outside and I felt like I was in Melbourne - well almost - the instructions were in German and if I was in Melbourne I would have been swimming not doing hot yoga! That afternoon it was time to try the lake - it had looked frozen for a few days and there were a few tentative footprints around the edges - enough to encourage Chris, Lucy and Ada to want to walk across it! Kayaking to the Edge of the "World"

My morning paddle was not as exotic as the title sounds.  The "World" is a series of artificial islands created off the coast of Dubai, roughly in the shape of the World. Within the world there are groups of sand islands each shaped in such a way that they look like one of the continents. It seemed like a good destination for a morning training paddle. Dubai skyscrapers obscrured by the mist What had been interesting was the recent high levels of humidity which combined with no breeze which created a mist on the coast.  As a result, I headed out to the World on a compas bearing.  It is always pleasant paddling on a still morning without seeing land. France...again

It was a pleasant surprise when I discovered that I had a work conference in Paris in the first week in April.  It seems that after moving to India from Germany that we spend most of our holidays in France. This holiday was slightly different as Lucy has decided that we are not “cool” travel companions so she packed her bags to visit her Aunty Anne and her nephews in Sydney. Kate, Ada and I had the good fortune to be invited to a to the country house of a French friend, Geraud.  His family holiday house is in the Central Massif, the volcanic region in the centre of France which is as remote as it gets in France.  The region has some small ski fields, although it was the very end of ski season, and is primarily known for agriculture, in particular the cheese and cured meats which we sampled at every opportunity.
